Fundraising Event a Huge Success

Our Pouring Wine for Canines and Felines fundraiser was a great success. Lots of $$$ made and 8 cats adopted..so thanks to all: Rons Nursery, The Quarterdeck, the wineries and all of the people that donated silent auction items and joined the raffle. And a big thank you to the community for coming out and supporting the event. This was the biggest event yet. Approximately 450 people helped support their local shelters. Love you all.

(Below are some of the great comments I received.)

From Terry:

Rhonda, you are such a dedicated hard worker! I had to work last night, but for the last week I told a bunch of people to go to this event, so I hope some did and made it better for the cause! You have a heart of gold :-)

From Keely:

Great event! Congrats on the $$ raised and finding some cute kitties homes! I would have taken one, but my doggies would not have been happy! ;-)

From Greg:

Wow! What a great event tonight Rhonda. Congratulations on the great turnout.

From Debby (Feline Network):

YOU ARE INCREDIBLE! We’re all still sort of reeling (happily, of course) over what you were able to put together and that we were one of the beneficiary organizations of your amazing fundraiser. Feline Network has gone round and round for years about our need for some organized fund raising events, but it always comes back to the fact that all our volunteers are spending their time dealing with the cats and kittens in one way or another and we’ve never had anyone with the experience and the drive to put something together. So out of the blue you offer to include us in this benefit and about all we have to do is show up. And when we did, we found out what a truly wonderful event you’d put together. I can’t imagine all the work that went into it — lining up the donations of food, wine, raffle and auction prizes. And we were totally blown away by the attendance. People were lined up at 5:00pm to go in and there was almost no break in the line until close to 7:00 (I can speak directly to that as I was one of those manning the “admission table”).

Jasmine

jasmine1In 2003, police in Warwickshire, England, opened a garden shed and found a whimpering, cowering dog.  It had been locked in the shed and abandoned. It was dirty and malnourished, and had clearly been abused.

In an act of kindness, the police took the dog, which was a Greyhound female, to the nearby Nuneaton Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary, run by a man named Geoff Grewcock and known as a willing haven for Animals abandoned, orphaned or otherwise in need.  Geoffand the other sanctuary staff went to work with two aims to restore the dog to full health, and to win her trust..  It took several weeks, but eventually both goals were achieved.

Pozo Finds a Home

Dear PAWS Campers, and S.L.O. Animal Services Staff,

Today, I found my forever home with my new family, in Atascadero.  During the drive north, I stood in the back of the Volvo wagon, or else hung over the back seat and watched the country side fly by.   I felt so free!  “They” said I had a smile on my face.  On the way home, they took me into Lemos Feed store and bought a training collar, doggie treats, shampoo/conditioner and a Kong.   I can’t wait to play with the Kong!

The Good German (Shepherd)

JD and Oso

JD and Oso

Just over a year ago I was faced with one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make in my life. My long time friend and companion, a full blooded German Shepherd, who’s full papered title name was “Sir Heckler Joshua Vonsickum” After devoting 12 wonderful years of service and joy to me, his big body began to tire and Joshua ended up with a debilitating case of Hip Dysplasia.

After many days and weeks of questions, research, and countless hours on the internet trying to understand his disease and his future, an agonizing decision was made to ease him of the pain that racked his poor old body. The decision was not made lightly or without regard for his life; for I knew it would be a decision I would ultimately have to live with for the rest of my life… And on that day… My heart broke…

Although setting his soul free was the right thing to do for his pain, my pain and emptiness would linger for many months to come. I swore I would never get another dog. They are too much trouble, and I can’t deal with them leaving when it’s their time to go.
